An Authentication & Security Experience
Overview
Authentication refers to the process of verifying one's identity when accessing accounts or services. In the context of this company, this is important when it comes to the process of customers filing claims and redeeming other benefits, so as to make sure that the right customers have access to their prescribed benefits and to also prevent fraudulent activity.

I joined the authentication team that consisted of a product manager, front-end, back-end, and infrastructure engineers and became immersed in the ecosystem of what consists of authentication and security at this enterprise. This work also involved consistent collaboration with other teams that had a need for authentication as well as fraud experts and other stakeholders.

As one of the most important products that the company offered, the stakes were high as our product is the gateway to several business critical activities including customers accessing benefits, making appointments, and filing claims, and revenue-driving  services. Minimizing downtime, mitigating fraud, and ease-of-use were paramount.

During my time on this team as the lead product designer, I contributed to the design and evolution of this application that acts as the gateway to a broad suite of services for both employees and customers. While the front-end experience is deliberately minimal, the product is engineered for maximum security and low-friction access. Our team implemented a range of authentication features — from fraud prevention to modern sign-in methods — to strike the right balance between usability and protection.
